The City is also looking into new transportation options for the community. Please review the description of these options below, before answering the following questions.

Carsharing – is like a short-term vehicle rental service, available only to members. It is a shared service that gives members access to a fleet of vehicles, which can be stored in different public locations across the community when they are not in use. There are fees and membership is an option.

Bike Sharing – is similar to carsharing but with bicycles. Shared bicycles are rented on a short-term basis. The bikes can live at special bike rack docking stations, and they must be picked up from and returned to a station. Or they can be “dockless” which means that they are allowed to be picked up and dropped off anywhere within a defined bike sharing zone.

E-bike Sharing – a bike sharing service with electric bikes. With e-bikes, they must be picked up and dropped off at docking stations so the batteries can be charged when the bikes are not in use.

E-scooter Sharing – is the same as bike sharing but with e-scooters. E-scooters are becoming more popular as a way to travel short distances quickly. Shared e-scooters are typically dockless and can be picked up and dropped off anywhere within a defined zone.

Carpooling – is not new. It is usually something that people organize themselves, to share a ride with others, whether they are the driver or a passenger. This could be applicable if you work in Winnipeg or other locations outside the City of Selkirk, and are willing to share the commute with others going the same direction.

There are new online businesses that can help to connect drivers with passengers who are going the same direction, where drivers can collect a reasonable fare from passengers.

Vanpooling – is similar to carpooling but the van or the vehicle can be provided by the City to encourage shared rides.
